Free rides on Turbulence and Lady Bug Coaster

On Wednesday, August 16th, Long Island Adventureland will be celebrating National Roller Coaster day with FREE rides on both of their two awesome coasters for guests who donate to the park’s annual school supply drive. That’s right; FREE rides on Turbulence and the Lady Bug all day for guests that donate school supplies on Wednesday, August 16th.

The Turbulence Coaster was added to the local landmark park in the summer of 2015, and continues to be a favorite among adults and children. The cars on this custom-made Mack coaster spin freely as they travel the tracks, giving riders 360 degrees of thrills and a unique experience every time they ride.

The Lady Bug Coaster is a kiddie coaster that packs a punch. Speeding around the track, this red coaster brings smiles and laughs to all who experience it. The memories on the Lady Bug are captured on camera and prints, souvenir gifts, and digital downloads are available for purchase.

School supply donations will be accepted from 11am until 10pm on August 16th at Adventureland, and they will benefit Adventureland’s Helping Hands Foundation’s annual School Supply Drive. This drive supports local students in need. Only new, unopened items will be accepted.

Donates $1,000 to Magic Aid

Last week, Adventureland’s Helping Hands Foundation donated $1,000 and a variety of magic tricks to Magic Aid, a nonprofit organization that teaches the
children at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital magic. Founded by medical student David Elkin in 2007, Magic Aid helps relieve the stress children experience with hospitalization by performing and teaching magic to young patients. Dedicated to bridging magic and medicine through the use of magic therapy, David and his team are striving to enhance the quality of care provided to patients, one card trick at a time.

Funds were raised through Adventureland Employees’ Water Bottle Recycling Program, and matched by The Helping Hands Foundation. The donation will go towards training other doctors and Magic Aid members sleight of hand, and purchasing tricks that the children can take home with them.

David Elkin stopped by Adventureland last week to show some of the Adventureland staff and the Helping Hands Foundation board members and their families how a little magic can go a long way.

Helping Hands Foundation Receives $50,000 Endowment

April 2017: The Sachem Dental Group awarded Adventureland’s Helping Hands Foundation’s Tony Gentile Memorial Scholarship Fund with a $50,000 endowment. This generous contribution ensures that the Tony Gentile Scholarship will live on in perpetuity to assist future generations of Long Islanders in their pursuit of higher education.

Based in central Suffolk County, Sachem Dental Group is a multi-office, multi-specialty general dental practice that has been providing quality care for patients for over 30 years.

In the past two years, the Tony Gentile Memorial Scholarship Fund has awarded nearly $20,000 in tuition assistance to Long Island seniors who are attending a college or university on Long Island as a full-time student after graduating high school. Award winners are selected based on their dedication to education, commitment to the Long Island Community, and devotion to family; all characteristics embodied by the late Mr. Gentile.

Applications for the Tony Gentile Memorial Scholarship are accepted until the end of April each year, and awards are distributed in June of each year.

To Host Annual Christmas In July

Adventureland’s Helping Hands Foundation will be collecting toys during the entire month of July for Stony Brook Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. Our goal is to exceed the 1000 toys we collected for these charities last July. Toys can be dropped off at Adventureland’s Main Ticket Booth or Back Ticket Booth every day in July from 11am until 9pm. Donors will receive a free giveaway for each toy they donate.

The Helping Hands Foundation and Adventureland, in collaboration with Cox Media’s 102.3 WBAB and 106.1 BLI, will be hosting Christmas in July themed activities and events every Saturday from 7/8-7/29, including live musical performances and even visits from Santa! Santa will be at Adventureland from 5pm-7pm on 7/15, 7/22, and 7/29 to take photos with guests. Ronald McDonald will also be stopping by for photos on the evening of 7/10.
