School Supply Press Release 2017 Wrap

Adventureland’s Helping Hands Foundation hostedtheir annual School Supply Drivelast month, and delivered all the items collected to Park Avenue Elementary School in Amityville, and Northern Parkway Elementary School in Uniondale. Thousands of school supplies ranging from backpacks, to pencils, to crayons were collected at Adventureland with the help of Cox Media’s 102.3 WBAB and 106.1 BLI.

This year was our most successful school supply drive yet! The Helping Hands Foundation and Cox Media donated over 2,500 backpacks to the drive, and thousands of school supplies like notebooks, folders, glue sticks, and more were collected throughout the month of August.

On August 16th, Adventureland hosted National Roller Coaster Day. In celebration of this tradition, guests that donated school supplies received free rides all day on the Turbulence Roller Coaster and the Lady Bug Roller Coaster. Many donations were also received during the Back to School Bash hosted by WBAB and WBLI at Adventureland.

Alfie and members of the Helping Hands Foundation visited both Park Avenue Elementary and Northern Parkway Elementary to help give out the supplies to students.

Food Drive Press Release 2017

Adventureland’sHelping Hands Foundation is hosting their 2nd annual Fall Food Drive this year benefitting the Town of Babylon Food Pantry and Long Island Harvest. With the goal of donating over100 Thanksgiving Baskets filled with all the trimmings to each organization, the Helping Hands Foundation aims to feed over 500 Long Islanders in need.

The Town of Babylon is the most densely populated municipality in Suffolk County, where nearly 6% of residents live below the poverty line. The Town of Babylon Pantry is open year-round to all Town of Babylon residents in need.

Long Island Harvest serves over 300,000 Nassau and Suffolk County residents in need through supporting over 500 soup kitchens and food pantries. Millions of meals are distributed to adults, children, seniors, families and veterans each year through Long Island Harvest.

For this year’s drive, the Helping Hands Foundation has partnered with Connoisseur Media and Moe’s Southwest Grille. Nonperishable food donations and gift card donations will be accepted weekends and holidays at Adventurelandthroughout September and October and all donors will receive a free giveaway while supplies last.

Coats for a Cause Press Release 2017

Adventureland’sHelping Hands Foundation launched the Coats for a Cause Program in March of this year. The goal for this initiative is to encourage and foster engagement among groups and organizations that frequent Adventurelandwith the Helping Hands Foundation, while providing winter gear to the local homeless community.

Each of the groups and organizations that hosted a trip to Adventureland during the 2017 season received free snack for their group members by donating new or very gently used winter coats or other winter items (hats, gloves, scarves, etc.) to The Helping Hands Foundation.

All coats and winter items collected were donated to the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless. The Coats for a Cause initiative received tremendous support—hundreds coats were collected and donated.

Originally founded as the Nassau-Suffolk Partnership in 1985, the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless educates the public and advocates for the development of Emergency, Transitional and Permanent Low-Cost Housing. Christmas In July Wrap Up Press Release 2017

Adventureland’s Helping Hands Foundation’s annual Christmas in July came to an end on Monday, July 31st. The landmark family amusement park decked the halls with thousands of lights, sang carols with the Uniondale High School Show Choir and got a visit from the man with all the toys, Santa Claus, all to support their nonprofit’s goal to collect 1,000 toys. With the help of Cox Media’s 102.3 WBAB and 106.1BLI and partners like Rhode Island Novelty, over 1,500 toys were donated to Stony Brook Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island.

Adventureland and the Helping Hands Foundation thank you for your support and look forward to continuing Christmas in July for many years to come!
